
Suomenlinna fortress in Helsinki in Finland – UNESCO World heritage site
The Suomenlinna sea fortress in Helsinki in Finland was built on six islands in the 18th century. Then known under its Swedish name: Sveaborg. It was renamed as Suomenlinna, or the Fortress of Finland, in 1918 – the year after Finland gained its independence.
