The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is an omnivorous mammal of the family Ursidae, and can be found across much of northern Eurasia and North America. It weighs between 100-700 kg. The main countries that host a lot of brown bears are Russia, the United States (especially Alaska), Canada and Finland, where it is the national animal.
There are about 800-1 000 brown bears in Finland. Most of the brown bears are concentrated in the Eastern parts of the country, but there are also numerous brown bears in the Lapland and in other parts of the Finland.
